History
Karpov chemical plant was
founded in 1868 by Ê. Ya.Ushkov, a peasant of
Bonduga village, Yelabuga region of Vyatskaya country.
Even in 1870 the plant was producing 238 thousand poods
of the various chemical products: sulfuric and hydrochloric acids,
chloride lime, soda, alum, vitriol, ceramic acid proof goods.
They were constantly modernizing their production and that
results in increase of products quality and quantity. In the
Õ1Õ century the plant was considered to be the leading one. Its
products were demonstrated on exhibitions in Moscow, Petersburg, Paris, Chicago, Vein,
Philadelphia, Êàzan, Nizny Novgorod.
The Master of plant P.Ê.Ushkov enlisted the service of foreign
engineers: Englishmen McMelan and Bîman, Germans Betger, Bayer and others. Famous
Russian engineers worked there, they are: P.P.Fedotiev, the future professor and
associate member of Russian Academy, Ê.G.Dementiev - a founder of industrial stoves
operating doctrine, a person who was a connoisseur of sulphuric acid process,
V.V.Êudryavtsev - an organizer and a chief of the chloride production under
full Leblanov cycle.
In 1893 a famous Russian chemist D.I.Ìåndeleyev
used facilities of the plant to work over the idea of getting
smokeless powder. Later he said that he had seen and experienced lots of foreign chemical
plants, but he realized with pride that the one created by Russian people can be not only
as foreign but be much better as well.
In 1908, for the first time in Russia, under the
direction of conspicuous Russian chemist Pryanishnikov the first part of
superphosphate was produced at the plant.
In 1915 a chemist and an engineer Lev Yakovlevich Karpov
was entitled to be the director of the plant. During the First World War they were
developing production of liquid chlorine, blue vitriol and copperas, potash chromic alum,
medical and commercial grade chloroform.
In 1920, under the direction of academic V.G. Khlopin,
radium salts production was started to be developed. For the first time in Russia, on
Bonduga chemical plant they got rich preparations of radium salts on the base of Òuya -
Ìuyunsky deposit near Fergana.
In 1920 - 1930 Bonduga chemical plant was some kind of a forge of a
qualified personell for the the Soviet chemical industry. Barium chloride
production by Duflo method was organized there and that would result in a completely new
branch of process. Barium salts production is successfully developed even at
present.
In 1924 the first production of sodium hyposulphite was developed
.
Beginning from 1959 up to 1965 production of new types of
products was mastered at the plant. The products are: barium hydroxide, barium
carbonate, calcium chloride pfarmacopoeian and others.
In 1969 - 1970 new units to produce sulfuric and hydrochloric acids
were put into operation. In 1968 (the year of its 100th anniversary) the
plant was awarded an Order of the Red Banner of Labour.
In 1970th, for the first time in the country, they put into operation MHZ (MCP)
production unit, MHZ (MCP) is used in automotive industry. A new
production of barium sulphate was developed, railroad facilities were put into operation
to enable large shipments of products.
In 70-80th nine types of products were
nominated a State "Quality Symbol". They are: crystalline
sodium thiosulphate of " photographic" type, preparation ÌCP, barium sulphate
for accumulators, barium sulphate PFA and P, barium sulphate for paper
coating, grade B, barium sulphate reagent, commercial grade barium hydroxide,
commercial grade crystalline sodium thiosulphate, anhydrous sodium sulphite of
"photographic" type.
The plant is being developed at present. They have modernized
magnesium sulphate, hyposulphite and sodium sulphite, barium chloride productions.
Consumer goods production unit and polypropylene sacks producing
unit, LLC "Êàma-Sacks", have been put into operation.
